FAQ
Why isn't ___ course showing up?
Ensure that your filters are set correctly. You can only select one semester at once. If you select multiple courses, then all of them will be searched together; however, if you search multiple requirements, then only the courses that match ALL the selected requirements will be returned. The days/times, formats, seats, and sessions you have selected will further filter the courses down.
Why does searching multiple requirements work this way?
The hypothesis is that a student would very rarely want to search courses that match any, but not all, of the requirements they selected. It would be way more common for a student to search courses that adhere to all the requirements they selected, so they can find courses that hit multiple requirements at once in terms of graduation requirements. However, please ensure that you double check which courses can actually satisfy multiple requirements, as some are limited. FastClass is not liable for any incorrect data or mistakes made by the student when planning their classes. ALWAYS double check the official SDSU website and meet with your advisor. See Disclaimer.
How often is the data updated?
The data is pulled from the database to the frontend and revalidated every 30 minutes. However, our scraper in the cloud might only scrape a few subjects in that time frame, so seat numbers could be off by a few hours. ALWAYS create back up plans for classes and ensure the information is correct. Again, see Disclaimer.
Can you add this feature I want?
We're always open to new suggestions for the site, and we want to make it as useful as possible to students. Please email any suggestions, bugs, inconsistencies, errors, or inquiries to jaxon@fastclass.io and we will respond to every email.
How do you get the data?
FastClass webscrapes publicly available information, as this is legal and upheld by the U.S. Ninth Circuit of Appeals. Additionally, the data is run through proprietary algorithms on the backend to meaningfully alter it and provide a unique product that is differentiable from the data sources. Futhermore, we ensure that we adhere to "good bot" rules, and we never spam or overload their servers. In fact, FastClass's data scraping is purposefully throttled in order to respect these institutions. That being said, FastClass is not affiliated with these instutitutions in any way, shape, or form. If any institution requests that we remove their data from the site, we would be more than happy to explore alternative sources.
